Riley was born in North Georgia on April 25,
2005. She was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome
in February of 2008, two months before she
turned 3. She can’t talk or use her hands but
she can walk with assistance and loves being
around people! She is very social and will walk
right up to most anyone and give them one of
her big smiles.
Riley has a big sister Addy who is 6 and a little
sister Morgan who is 2. She loves watching
them run around and giggles when they act
silly. Her sisters adore her and often help walk
her around and feed her some of her favorite
snacks like Froot Loops!
Riley attends preschool 5 days each week. She
absolutely loves going to school and often
wants to go wait for the bus even on the
weekend! Her teacher is a speech pathologist
who is working on using
eye gaze and pictures so that Riley can
communicate with us. Riley also works hard at
bearing weight on her arms to keep them from
locking up, and we make sure she is up walking
around daily to keep her strong.
Riley enjoys swimming, listening to music,
reading books and watching cartoons. Over
spring break we took a trip to the beach and
she LOVED it. We definitely need to make it an
annual trip! Riley also started therapeutic
horseback riding this year and really seems to
enjoy it, as long as it's not too hot!
We look forward to the day when a cure is
found and Riley regains the skills she has lost!
